When you install Windows 7, the installer will look for a place to copy temporary files to. One of such places can be an unformatted (or encrypted by TrueCrypt, but Windows thinks it is empty) partition.

Usually I switch off all disks except the one I install the OS onto. But once I forgot to do it and Windows have broken the data on disk. Fortunately, I have managed to restore almost all of the data.

Now I'm on notebook and can't / don't want to switch off my hard drives when reinstalling the operating system.

It there an option to prevent Windows OS installer (to disambiguate with Windows Installer subsystem for installing software) from doing such a barbarism?
