Can anyone recommend a basic video card that will run a Dell 3007WFP at 2560x1600 well enough for a business workstation? I don't need anything fancy, just a cheap VGA AGP card that won't stutter while I'm programming.

Thanks!

Edit

I meant to say AGP rather than VGA.

you'll get a nVidea GeForce 8600gs for 30 dollar. it'll do but do you really want to ruin the experience of a 1200 dollar monitor with some el-cheapo graphics card? :) – Molly7244 Sep 1 at 23:36

The Dell 3007WFP doesn't even accept a "VGA" input as it has no such connector to begin with ^^

It only has a dual-link DVI-D which requires a digital signal (it's not DVI-I as you can see it lacks the analog pins/holes to the right)...

I guess you're using the term "VGA" meaning "graphics card"... VGA is generally used to refer to the old analog RGB output... for that monitor you need dual-link DVI - which most modern graphics cards provide at "no extra cost" - just make sure it has dual-link dvi and supports the resolution needed and go for it - as you're not into 3D any cheap card with those two criteria will do fine.

I realize there is no VGA port, I said VGA when I meant to say AGP. I need an AGP card that will run the 3007WFP (i.e. not PCI-Express). – Nathan Taylor Sep 3 at 16:10
I see, well - before I even wrote my answer I upvoted unknown answer which contains actual suggestions, of which one is an AGP card ^^ – Oskar Duveborn Sep 3 at 18:51

I have an nVidia GeForce 9800GT with my Dell at 2560x1600 and it works well and runs a 2nd smaller monitor, too.

OS: CentOS 5.3+, nVidia proprietary driver - but had to use KVM rather than XEN for the driver to work (which is fine, now that it works).

I think this is the card I bought, but I'd have to confirm that and the monitor model when I'm in the office.
