Using Thunderbird, after I send an email, and then later click to view the Sent folder, it always has to re-sync to learn the new contents of that folder... So there is always a 2-10 second delay when I open SENT before I see the new stuff.

I find it annoying and unnecessary that Thunderbird only seeks to learn about the new contents of the Sent folder the next time that I click to view that folder.

How can I tell Thunderbird to sync that folder in the background so that the changes are already shown?

Perhaps I could get it to refresh that SENT folder's contents every 10 minutes?

I thought IMAP was fairly push-oriented and this wouldn't be a problem.
