I recently read that the only difference between DVI and VGA is that DVI is digital whereas VGA is an analog signal. This means it might gain noise along the way or if the cable is cheap. I currently convert from DVI (the only output my GPU gives) to VGA directly out of the GPU, and then pass the signal to my two screens through a VGA cable. The cable itself is not too long, but the screens are big and that might cause some trouble. Would it be wiser to use DVI cables and converting to VGA (the only input my monitors can take) right before the monitor?

That little adapter you're using to "convert" DVI to VGA only pulls VGA pins that are already within your DVI port out. According to this, you're using a DVI-I connector from your video card. Since your monitors only take a VGA signal, you don't really have options here. Unless you wanted to find some horrible device to convert a DVI-D (actually digital) to Analog for you between your video card and your monitor. Hint: That'll suck, the video card doing the conversion is as good as it gets. The only thing you can do to improve the quality from this point is find better cables (and shorter). But, if it looks good, then you don't need to spend any more time on this. | |||
