Firefox recently, without any reason I can think of, began asking for my Master Password on startup. I've reset the Master Password, so I know the password database is empty. It is now my understanding that, without any data actually in the password database, there should never be any reason for Firefox to prompt me for the Master Password.

Is there any way I can find out what is causing this?

You did follow all the troubleshooting suggestions on that linked MozillaZine page, did you? – Bobby Oct 3 '11 at 14:05
@Bobby The problem isn't that it's asking for a Master Password when there isn't one configured. It's that it's asking for a Master Password when there is one configured, but there aren't any other passwords configured. – Iszi Rory or Isznti Oct 3 '11 at 18:08
Did the Master Password option get turned on some how? – Justin Pearce Oct 4 '11 at 20:42
@JustinPearce The Master Password option is meant to be on, since I want what few passwords I store in Firefox to be protected. The issue is that Firefox shouldn't be prompting me for the Master Password until it's actually needed - and on startup, (and especially with an empty database) it's not. – Iszi Rory or Isznti Oct 4 '11 at 21:38

Initially, Firefox will prompt for the Master Password when it finds a form that it can store information for. I believe this is by design, just in case you want to save log in details for the page you are currently on.

What are you using for your homepage?
