I'm running a Haunted House exhibit at my school to raise money, and I had the idea of taking pictures of the "victims"/students remotely with my Sony DSLR camera and then printing and selling the photos as the students exit the haunted House (much like amusement parks do with roller coasters as you go down the final drop, or when one takes pictures with Santa Claus at the mall). Does anyone know of any free/relatively inexpensive software that would allow me to do this? I would prefer Mac-compatibility, but it's not a requirement.

Are you looking for an automated capture program that takes pictures when it "sees" people in the camera field? – music2myear Oct 5 '11 at 17:41
+1 for running a Haunted House to raise money for your school! ]BD – Randolf Richardson Oct 5 '11 at 17:47
@music2myear: No, there would be someone (probably me) manually pressing the shutter/capture button (preferably from the computer) as I see people coming. (Although that would be really cool!) Randolf: Thanks for the support ;) – Matt Oct 5 '11 at 19:04

If you're planning on pressing the shutter yourself, you would really just need two memory cards that you'll swap out regularly and hand off to someone sitting at any modern computer with a decent printer connected.

So long as your Sony supports a cheap memory card format such as SD (rather than the silly Memory Stick format) this should be pretty cheap and easy to use. No long cables running across the floor.

Most cameras I'm familiar with (consumer units) do not support being connected to a computer and taking pictures at the same time.
