I have a Windows Vista Ultimate machine that I have had a problem with for a few years. After a few days/weeks my machine will lose sound. When I launch windows media player and try and play a music file it will tell me that my machine is low on memory and that it can't play the file.

The only way to get sound restored is to restart the machine, and everything is fine for another few weeks. When this happens I have checked the device manager and nothing seems to explain why this would be happening.

I don't understand the low memory error that WMP gives me either because this machine has 8 GB of RAM, and I can close every single application that is running and it still won't play any sounds until I reboot the machine.

Has anyone seen a problem similar to this or can anyone offer any insight into what is happening?
