I am running XP professional on an HP Probook 6450b. I have been using a monitor with the dvi port on the docking station. A few days ago, the monitor started saying no signal detected. I switched to the vga port and the monitor is now working. When using the Properties settings, I noticed the "Extend my Windows settings onto this monitor" checkbox was unchecked. So I tried checking it on. However, upon refresh, it is automatically unchecked, even though the monitor window above the check box shows two monitors.

In terms of troubleshooting, I did the following:

  1. Tried the monitor and dvi cable on another system. The monitor worked in this situation.
  2. Did a rollback of system to point in time prior to when the dvi signal stopped working. Didn't fix things.
  3. Tried another docking station with the laptop/monitor. Still not working.
  4. Took my hard drive out and put it in another 6450b. Tested this with the monitor, still not working.

So, I short of doing a complete reformat/reinstall, are there some software options I should be looking into. I am just looking for some direction as where to start.

Check the bios to see if any options got changed that could affect video output while docked. If you find nothing try the "load defaults" option in the bios. – Moab Oct 10 '11 at 3:58
