I'm considering a little change.

Currently I am running two standard 500GB drives with RAID0. I was considering an upgrade for SSD. For some time I've notice relatively cheap SSD drives running with SATA6, offering writing speed of ~500MB/s, reading ~500MB/s.

Is it really possible to achieve that or is it just marketing? For example if I made a RAID0 out of them, what approximate speeds would I get?

You need to be a bit more careful with your questions. All of them are sort-of borderline shopping recommendations, some are really very localized and it's hard to give a generic answer that will be valid in a few months from now or useful to anybody else except for you. – slhck Oct 10 '11 at 21:58
Everything is marketing and just simplified and abstracted for the mainstream user. Get use to it. Oh wait, that's a simplification. . . – surfasb Oct 11 '11 at 4:27
