I have an 8-bay eSATA RAID enclosure (RSV-S8) that has two links in the back for two cables, so it multiplies each cable into four ports. I've noticed that when I remove or insert a drive, the whole "bus" for one cable seems to reset. All the lights for all drives blink off and on again. I've tried the Silicon Image card that came with it and a HighPoint card I bought and see the same behavior with both. Is this normal behavior for a port multiplier? Could it have something to do with the enclosure or disks?
Also, often times drives just don't show up. The lights will be on but no amount of rescanning with Windows or one of the cards notices them. I'm trying to determine if the enclosure could be at fault, or card, or cable, or drive, or what...beginning to think this enclosure is bad.
