My laptop has two 4GB DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 modules, rated at 1.5V.

Its battery is rated 5800 mAh at 10.8V, and according to BatteryBar, it consumes between 5 to 18 watts (idle vs. busy) in Windows's power-saving mode.

How much longer will those 1.35v DDR3 modules extend my battery life? Last week, the Windows 8 MSDN Blog said that my 8GB laptop upgrade just screws up my battery life; ergo not such a good idea after all. I thought with excess RAM the disk won't spin and be used as much, ergo prolonging my battery life. What's the straight dope?

The articles I find talk about server and desktop low-power ram, not those for laptops.
