In my organisation three LAN are connected to backbone network that is running 1000Base-T gigabit ethernet and using dedicated computers running window server 2003 as routers.

in addition to connecting the LAN the backbone network is connected to the corporate headquarter network in another city using a hardware router and T-1 line. A second T-1 line to the corporation's ISP is connected to the backbone using an internet access router.

recently my company wants to modify the network design because they have decided to use the new facility to house the corporation internet webservers.

to accomodate this addition they want to add another LAN to the design , located in the building locked basement. the basesment LAN consist of six webservers running window server 2003 connected by 100 base-TX fast ethernet AND running on Category 5 unshielded twisted pair cable (UTP) . one of the computer running window 2003 server also has a 1000 base-T gigabits etherner adapter installed in it, enabling it to route traffic to the backbone.

because the webserver must be visible from the internet so that potential customer can access them , they must have IP addresses that are registered with the IANA. the company had registered class C network address 207.46.230.0 from its ISP. the company has already subnetted the address using a 3 bit subnet identifier. all the subnets are already in use by other company offices except for the last one, which is available for our use.

For the three remaining LANs we have decided to use unregistered IP addresses. the computers on these network will be able to access the internet using the NAT capabilities of the internet access router on the backbone. our IP addressing plan calls for using a single private network address, 172.19..0.0/22 with one subnet allocated to eacch of the four unregistered LAN. My questions:

  1. What should be our IP addresses plan?
  2. How to design network diagram?
  3. How to improve this network design by usiing different concept?
  4. What additonal hardware we need to purchase?
  5. Network topology most appropriate?
  6. Any server required any additional software?

"because the webserver must be visible from the internet so that potential customer can access them , they must have IP addresses that are registered with the IANA" is false. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Oct 13 '11 at 6:28

This would be better suited to SF BUT VtC here as the questions covers quite a wide range. It would be better to ask as smaller, individual questions (On ServerFault). – tombull89 Oct 13 '11 at 7:54
