Running VMWare player on 64-bit Windows 7. I had a virtual Ubuntu 11.04, and yesterday I tried upgrading to 11.10 via the built-in upgrade method. It got to "Installing new packages" and a dialog asking to keep/replace a customized config file popped up, whereupon it froze. It doesn't respond to any mouse clicks or keyboard input so far as I can tell.

I am afraid to restart the machine halfway through the upgrade process, but can't think of anything else. Am I boned?

Is this question still outstanding? How were you accessing the VM, via the vmware player console or via RDP? – Paul Oct 18 '11 at 1:39
