I just recently built a new computer (Windows 7 OS) and have a 64GB SSD as my main drive with a 1TB hard drive as well for other superfluous files and games etc. that just chew up space on the SSD. I wanted to move my Users folder directory path from my SSD (C drive) to my hard drive (M drive) so my videos and pictures etc. don't take up space, along with my temp folder and whatnot.
Anyways, I followed this guide: http://www.starkeith.net/coredump/2009/05/18/how-to-move-your-windows-user-profile-to-another-drive/ to the letter and when I logged out of the 2nd account and logged back into my main one, it logged me in as a temporary user and not as my administrator account with all of my other programs installed.
To try and fix the problem, I reversed the process described in the link above (junctioned my M drive to my C drive) but it still kept logging me in as a temp account. After I looked through the comments someone suggested using a "symbolic link" (mklink /D instead of mklink /J) instead of a junction. I did that hoping it would fix it, but to no avail.
It's currently in that configuration, with my users folder on my main admin account symbolically linked to my M drive (the hard drive I want it directed to) but it just won't let me log on as my regular account.
Is there a way to fix this and be able to log back on as my admin account with all my settings as they were before I did this, and still have my users folder directed to my hard drive?
Fortunately I did a system image backup prior to doing this in-case something happened, but last time I restored it, it took like 11 hours to do, so I'm hoping to avoid that. Also, is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do, detailed above than how I have attempted to?
