My school has a bunch of printers on their local net, which can be printed to via their Linux machines via CUPS. I'm wondering if it's possible to set up my Windows 7 laptop to print directly to them.

My school has a few boxes that allow external ssh access, so using PuTTY, I forwarded port 631 to the CUPS address, and I was able to install the printer in Win7 by pointing the installation dialog to http://localhost:631/printers/printer-name. Windows sees the printer, and upon trying to print a test page, it shows up in the completed jobs area of the CUPS status page. But nothing prints. I suspect reason is that it's using my Windows login information instead of my school account. Our school accounts have a limited number of pages per month that we're allowed to print, so it makes sense that nothing is going to print unless CUPS knows which account to charge it to.

Is there some way I can make Windows use the same credentials I'm using for PuTTY? Or is this a lost cause?
