I use an organizational network that requires all users to go through a proxy server in order to connect to the public Internet. Not all applications support use of proxies. I am wondering if there is any way to set up an interface for these non-proxy-aware applications, like a virtual network adapter in Windows (similar to what a VPN would do)? In a way, requiring use of proxies messes with the application layer of TCP/IP, so is there a way to "abstract" out the proxy connection for simpler programs?

the broad class of software you are considering is called a proxifier - wikipedia has a listing, but i can't recommend any specific one – Journeyman Geek Oct 17 '11 at 2:43
