Whenever I shut my computer down and boot it up the next day, my history timestamps get mangled, like so:

1  Wed 19 10:57:36 #+1319008301
2  Wed 19 10:57:36 mv ../PerfMon1207111215_08241553_PERFMON_LOG_ANALYSIS_Date_2011-08-24_20-23-4545.htm .
3  Wed 19 10:57:36 #+1319008301
4  Wed 19 10:57:36 mv PerfMon1207111215_08241553_PERFMON_LOG_ANALYSIS_Date_2011-08-24_20-23-4545.htm ..
5  Wed 19 10:57:36 #+1319008301
6  Wed 19 10:57:36 mv ../Perf-test-output-24-08-2011-.docx ../Index_frag_Pre_Post_rebuild_240820112345.xlsx docs/

Removing the +'s fixes this, but that's a pain to do everytime. It looks like the original timestamp for the command is overwritten with the "+" and the timestamp of the boot.

My settings, with regards to history are the following:

$ set | grep -i hist
BASHOPTS=autocd:cdable_vars:checkjobs:checkwinsize:cmdhist:dotglob:expand_aliases:extglob:extquote:force_fignore:globstar:gnu_errfmt:histverify:huponexit:interactive_comments:login_shell:progcomp:promptvars:shift_verbose:sourcepath
HISTCONTROL=erasedups
HISTFILE=/home/<user>/.history
HISTFILESIZE=5000
HISTIGNORE='did*:&:#*:[ ]*:exit'
HISTSIZE=5000
HISTTIMEFORMAT='%a %d %H:%M:%S '
PROMPT_COMMAND='history -a'
SHELLOPTS=braceexpand:hashall:histexpand:history:ignoreeof:interactive-comments:monitor:notify:vi

More settings:

$ shopt | grep -i hist
cmdhist         on
histappend      off
histreedit      off
histverify      on
lithist         off
