All phones are locked.

Softbank and Docomo phones will work once unlocked.

Moreover, consider that, for example, softbank and docomo use UMTS only (no gsm), and for example, a samsung dumbphone that I bought does NOT have GSM connectivity, so, even if unlocked, does not work very well in Europe. (May I add that the unlock is not stable and requires tons of reboots?)

au/kddi and willcom phones won't work at all

(Maybe au/kddi phones will work in the usa with sprint/verizon once unlocked?)
