I had an authentication problem with the root user. So I found a tutorial and deleted the AuthenticationAuthority key in the root preference list.

When I did that, the root user deleted in Directory Editor's user list. Now I can't even activate or deactivate the root user on my server.

How do I fix this?

It's only deleted in the user directory, but the actual root access privileges are built into the kernel, so you should be able to sudo and add it back. Try adding a user named root and change uid/gid to 0. – billc.cn Oct 22 '11 at 21:44
oh thanks man. sudo dscl . -create /Users/root NFSHomeDirectory /var/root command worked like a charm and root user is back! :) – cekisakurek Oct 22 '11 at 22:05
Still, double check that the group ids and the unique/user ids are correct (i.e. = 0). – billc.cn Oct 22 '11 at 22:18
