I ordered some Z210 workstations from HP with the AMD FirePro 2270 graphics card/adapter and the power supply that ships is 240W & 90% efficient.

The specs on AMDs website claim that it requires a 350W PS or greater. Clearly HP does not obey this specification since they are using a 240W PS.

This document states the maximum board power used is 15W.

Why would AMD state this requirement and is it anything I should be concerned with?

OEM PSU's are usually under rated, meaning they state a lower wattage than they can actually produce. AMD plays it safe not knowing the quality of the PSU being used and overstates the required rating, better they do that than have users damaging their cards with under powered PSU's. – Moab Oct 27 '11 at 17:12
