I'm looking to automate tracking my expenses by scanning in receipts/bills/invoices from purchases at shops etc.
What's the most reliable (i.e. most accurate and consistent) and least manual Windows-based software/hardware solution to do this?
Specific questions:
Some receipts tend to be long narrow paper from a tear off roll, so for the hardware part of the solution is there anything available customised to suit this instead of a general purpose scanner. While other invoices are larger rectangular sheets A4/Letter.
I'd like the software to do OCR and somehow make sense of the information on the receipt- i.e. find the date, total price, etc and goods purchased and from where.
Windows is the preferred platform, but also use Mac and Linux. Even Android or iPod touch apps might be worth considering as I use these too.
