I own a Compaq Presario CQ60.

Processor: AMD Sempron Processor SI-42 2.10 GHz, Level 2 cache 512 KB
Memory: 4GB (2x 2GB)
Storage: 160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8200M 512MB vRAM overclocked to 900

I think I need to upgrade the processor because it's a single core and I play games while having 9000 Google Chrome tabs open, instant messenger etc. Will I see major benefits if I upgrade the processor to a similar Core Duo one? Would L2 cache 512KB -> 2MB be a big upgrade?

I was reading and since it's currently a 'S1G2 processor', apparently an AMD Turion ZM-80 seems to be the best to replace it with which has 32W of Thermal Dissipation Power (TDP) and a 2MB L2 cache. My current processor is only 25W TDP. If you don't think overheating will be an issue, perhaps I could go to a ZM-88 (35W TDP)?

There's no way yo use an Intel processor in this case. As for cooling, I really don't know. You'll have to test it and see. Do note that use of thermal paste is mandatory! It is extremely important to correctly place thermal paste. You should maybe even consider buying some good brand expensive paste, since you're using a laptop. – AndrejaKo Nov 2 '11 at 22:52
Can we get the exact model number? There are a lot of different CQ60 motherboards. – David Schwartz Nov 3 '11 at 0:24
