My current system in based on Debian 6.0 Squeeze.

I have a trackball that I use to emulate a mouse. On the trackball, I press 'Button 8' to emulate a scroll wheel, i.e., pressing Button 8 and rolling the trackball allows me to scroll in various applications.

My question: If I buy another identical trackball, can I make the second trackball a permanent scroll wheel by emulating continuous pressing? How do I emulate continuous button press on a mouse button on Linux?
