What version of msn lets you send offline msg and is not annoying to use?

I was using an old version (unfortunately i dont remember which version). I couldnt send offline messages to certain people. With the new version (15.4) it doesnt let me save my username unless i save my password with it and i cant click on the row nor the text of a category to expand it (whats sad is the app even highlights it....) i have to click a tiny 5x10pixel '>' character. Both of these annoy me so much. Also i dont like how it sends image files.

I switched to pidgin then found out there were problems with friends sending me files. I'm kind of stuck. I may just use an older version of msn and risk not having offline msgs (i can just email or toss it into a txt file for later)

What version of msn/live messenger is not annoying to use?
