I'm trying to diagnose what is the problem with my laptop (HP DV2000 series). When I turn it on it seems like nothing is wrong with it but after a while the screen goes blank. It seems to be that the backlight goes off since you can see image (although faint) is there if you pay close attention. If I move or tap the screen the backlight turns on again, sometimes for a while or sometimes it just flickers until one of my taps puts it in the right position for it to remain backlighted.
I took it to a laptop tech who told me that the problem could be the inverter or the lcd screen. According to him the lcd screen was more likely because when the inverter is broken it just doesn't work, it doesn't turn on and off, which I find suspicious since I have read on the internet that one symptom of a malfunctioning inverter could be the flickering I'm experiencing.
Anyhow, he told me that the problem occurs when this components heat up, which is why the flicker starts after a the laptop has been turned on for a while which seems like a valid explanation (this seems to be HP's version of "planned obsolence". I'm not getting another HP laptop.). H
e was charging a lot though so I decided to look it up by myself. Right now I just want to know what is more likely because I've seen some videos and replacing the lcd screen or the inverter doesn't seem to be hard, I just don't want to spend ~60 bucks on a screen when the problem could be the inverter or the lcd cable (it could also be the culprit).
