I need to access a Windows application from a tablet. I think my only option is to go Remote Desktop. Reliability and security are crucial. What are your thoughts on the options that are available?

MS RDP + OpenVPN. I'm using it myself for two years (OpenVPN server is in my home WiFi router with DD-WRT firmware).

That won't work with an iPad since it doesn't support OpenVPN without jailbreaking. – Andrew Maiman Nov 16 '11 at 0:44
