I have a desktop PC that I feel has a pretty good configuration but still its giving me problems while watching streaming videos or even browsing the internet. I'd appreciate suggestions on what component I should upgrade/what settings I should modify to better my performance.

My current configuration is:

  • Windows 7 32-bit
  • 2.5GB RAM
  • Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3GHz
  • DirectX 11
  • Display adapter: 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset (Intel)
  • Available graphics memory: 192 MB

Compatible upgrade suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome! We don't really do these kinds of shopping/buying recommendations as you can read in the FAQ. That being said, seems like a good time to upgrade from the P4. – slhck Nov 16 '11 at 14:26
Unfortunately SuperUser doesn't do shopping reccomendations (see the FaQ) for more info. When you get a bit more reputation feel free to drop into chat where things are a bit more lax. Personally, though, I wouldn't want to work on a single-core machine any more, so I'd see about a processer upgrade and something a bit more powerful graphics wise. – tombull89 Nov 16 '11 at 14:29
Get a discrete video card. There's many $100-$150 ones that should be more than enough (I would recommend an Nvidia GTX 550). Your RAM number worries me, as I'm guessing you have 2x1GB and 1x512MB or 1x2GB and 1x512MB sticks. Pair up your DRAM modules so you can use them in dual-channel mode, otherwise you're leaving out a huge performance gain there. – Breakthrough Nov 16 '11 at 14:46
Thanks! My question was not about so much about shopping recommendations but more about what I am lacking to get a good performance. But thanks for making me aware about the FAQ! – blopblop Nov 16 '11 at 23:36
