I have been facing the problem since a couple of months..

I have bought an Edimax wireless router for my home network from ebay. Now that router had some serious issues with overheating. It used to switch off after a couple of hours, and needed to be kept off for half an hour or so. Then we managed to open up the cover of router without voiding the warranty(it had 3 yrs of warranty), and keep a CPU fan over the microprocessor, a realtek make microprocessor, and it used to work 24 x 7. Now, again due to removing of the cover, dust is making it malfunction and shutdown sometimes.

So, we purchased a new router, an IBall make wireless router. This router functioned properly for a few hour before showing up a different problem of not connecting to internet. This router also was heating terribly.

My question is what is causing all theses problems? Is it the heating of router? or is it something else??

P.S. : I have a broadband connection at my home by a local ISP. What is peculiar is that that guy is using a "I don't know what" cable, its neither CAT5 nor CAT6. It has 2 pairs of wire in it. and moreover it is stretching up to 10-15 meter from nearest switch. Can this damage my router?

what volts you are using to your country?...maybe you are using a 110volts, some routers in eBay are 220-230 volts in nature...so try to use some electronic covertion, like AVR...etc..

and can I ask what is your city's temparature(METRIC SYSTEM) in Celsius...
