You just purchased what? And you just want to set up a home Wireless network and connect a computer to it? What sort of computer do you have? What operating system is running on the computer? Please clarify your request. – music2myear Nov 25 '11 at 18:30
-1 for missing a fairly critical piece of info...while Super User users may be skilled with computers we're yet to master telekenisis and mind-reading over internet. – tombull89 Nov 25 '11 at 18:46

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

Yes, you can have a desktop machine only connected through wireless. For instance, the Mac Mini doesn't even have an ethernet port, it has to be connected wirelessly.

You can buy either a wireless USB adapter or a wireless PCI card for your desktop.

Many desktop computers come with wireless built in already. So first, check and see if your computer already has it. If it does not, I'd recommend a USB wireless adapter. They are easy to install and usually come with cords that allow them to be placed creatively to get the best signal strength.

Second, you need a wireless router. If you already have one: great! If not, you'll need to get one and configure a wireless network.

Finally, install the USB wireless adapter and configure your computer to connect to the wireless network.
