Why do we use wi-fi routers when we could just use a computer's wifi port to make an adhoc- network?

I would only use an ad-hoc connetion on a tempoaray basis, while router or access point is more permernant or needed an internet connection. – tombull89 Nov 28 '11 at 14:53

Dedicated routers are much cheaper. You can get a wireless router for about $70, whereas a netbook computer will typically cost almost $200.
