I failed to install device drivers for a USB mass storage device after succeeding to run a virtual Windows Vista and Windows 7 in Oracle's VM, VirtualBox, in Ubuntu 11.10 as the host OS: but no hang.
Are there any particular reasons?
And then I tried VMware Player. I am still able to run Windows Vista and successfully installed the USB drives and whatever USB devices I plugged in were correctly identified but the VMware software most of the time would hang or abruptly hang without an obvious reason and my host OS, Ubuntu 11.10, would lose total control and also hung together. No other choice. I have to manual power off to reset the PC. I am sure there is some problem somewhere. It hangs on every session.
But Windows XP mode runs fine and correctly identified the USB devices. In the Oracle VM, VirtualBox, with host OS Ubuntu 11.10. No hang.
Is there better virtualisation freeware for Ubuntu?
