Is there an open source alternative to Team Viewer or GoTo Assist? No VNC is not a viable alternative; VNC is more of an administrative tool.

What features of TV or GTA are you expecting that VNC won't offer you? – techie007 Nov 30 '11 at 20:26
any of these work? – soandos Nov 30 '11 at 20:27
What features are you targeting? Do you want more speed, or is a speed drop acceptable? – surfasb Nov 30 '11 at 22:44

do you mean that VNC is not necessarily user friendly? Joel Spolsky's company made a user friendly solution over VNC that works like GoTo My PC. Of course they charge for the service. But it's possible to provide the functionality of GoToAssist using Open Source tools. Problem is you're not going to get that out of the box.

I use ScreenConnect. http://www.screenconnect.com/

You do need to provide insight into what features you are looking for and what you are not getting out of GTA or Teamviewer. ScreenConnect is not free, but significantly cheaper.

gitso is a great alternative. It's a reverse VNC software that works exactly like GoToAssist and others.

I've been using Techinline remote desktop for several years. Perfect alternative to all expensive similar products as it seems to me
