I've been plugging my laptop into my TV for a while and it always adjusted the screen resolution automatically and got it right. After the screen automatically adjusted I had a lot of flexibility - e.g. I could duplicate screens or turn off the laptop screen etc and everything would keep working.

Then one day I plugged in a different monitor. Doing so seemed to totally screw something up because I can't get the TV on to the right resolution anymore. In both Windows 7 control panel and the NVidia control it only has a list of incorrect resolutions. Furthermore, I've lost the ability to turn off the laptop screen and still have the TV on - if I turn off the laptop screen the TV goes blank and says "Video mode not supported".

Running Windows 7, NVidia GeForce 8400M G. The TV is a Philips FlatTv 32pf7320. The NVidia driver is up to date according to Windows.

Any ideas where I can begin in fixing this problem?
