Do the current Windows and Mac OS file systems (FAT, NTFS, HFS+) use bit tables and bit vectors for part of doing free space management for file management or is this concept only related to modern UNIX file systems?

If so, what main technique of file management is employed by the current Windows and Mac OS file systems?

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

FAT does not have free disk space optimizations but NTFS and HFS both use bit arrays for free space tracking.
