I'll try to keep this short. Where I work, they like to keep track of all of the wireless users so, every day, when we access the wireless for the first time that day, we're directed to a "login" page where we enter our credentials, and then we're allowed to use the net as we wish.
What I'd prefer to do is have my iPad and iPhone remember my login info for that page, but the IT gods here have appended "autocomplete=false" to the login form, so my iPad and iPhone won't offer to remember my login/password.
So, what I'm looking to do is to somehow get that login page to go through a proxy where I can filter out the "autocomplete=false" bit so that my iStuff will save the login info.
Here's what I think I understand about the problem: 1 - I think I only need to do this once for each device (not every day). It appears that the "autocomplete=false" tag doesn't prevent Safari from fetching stored login info, it only keeps it from saving the stuff you entered. So, once I run through the proxy once and get Safari to remember my info, I won't need the proxy anymore. 2 - I think it's going to need to be a wireless-to-wireless bridge... probably a Linux box, I imagine, where it shows itself as an access point (which I join the iDevice to) which then also joins to the company wireless.
So, I guess where I'd like some direction on is: 1 - What's the easiest way to (in Linux or Windows) set up a PC/laptop so that it appears as an access-point? 2 - Are there any good packages out there which make it easy to roll your own filtering proxy (so I don't have to set up, say, Apache and then have it redirect to a CGI or PHP script, etc.)?
