Create movies from images and sound files scripting transitions using Linux console?

I need a Linux command-line program that can:

Accept some kind of scripting language capable of transitions (fade, scale...)
Generate movie files like AVI, MKV etc from images like JPG, PNG, and audio like MP3

Any suggestions?

See DVD-Slideshow:

dvd-slideshow is a group of Linux commandline programs that creates a slideshow-style video from groups of pictures.

It seems that you just need to select the tools you want to use and learn their commands individually instead of using the bundle.
