I can't get Windows Explorer to show the thumbnail previews of images no matter what I do.

It used to work but at some point it stopped generating the previews. It doesn't work for any image type (jpg, png, gif etc)

The folder options checkbox 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' is UNCHECKED. I have also set Windows Photo Viewer as the default program for all the images in the hope it would the re-association would re-generate the previews.

Is there any way I can find out what is causing the problem? Perhaps by checking values in the registry? or just fix the problem by resetting it to default settings?

I would post a screen capture, but it won't allow new members to (even though I have accounts on other network sites!). System Information: Windows 7, 64-bit (latest Windows Updates)

Have you tried any of the solutions in this thread? – Fopedush Dec 19 '11 at 17:17
Yes, I've done loads of registry cleaing, cache deleting etc. One thing I haven't done is edit the registry directly. What should the correct values be for the .png, .jpeg, .gif etc keys? – ritch0s Dec 19 '11 at 17:24
Note: I'm using the CCCP codec pack on the computer which is for video files. Could this affect image thumbnail generation? – ritch0s Dec 19 '11 at 19:17
@ritch0s: Very unlikely, but possible. The image thumbnailer are similar but different settings. If CCCP did break the image thumbnailer, it would more likely be bigger systematic changes (or in your case, breaks). Also, if you have accounts on other sites, you need to link them to this Super User account so you can post picture links. – surfasb Dec 19 '11 at 21:18
I wish I had mode advice for you, but, as you can see from the other thread, my solution was just to reformat :( – Fopedush Dec 21 '11 at 17:10
