I have this problem with my Inspiron N5030's A/C adapter which comes from Dell. It won't let me run my brand-new laptop without it. The Li-Ion battery doesn't charge either, it's still stuck at 88%.

The adapter is Microsoft ACPI, it says so in my Device Manager for Windows 7 Enterprise.

How old is the laptop? It may need a new battery. – Hand-E-Food Dec 21 '11 at 0:13
