The first Intel 32-bit microprocessor (Intel 80386) was released in 1985.

But the first 32-bit Windows OSs were released in 1993 (NT) and in 1995 (Windows 95).

What took it so long? Why didnt MS release 32-bit OS in 1980s?

Software always lags hardware. Why did it take so long to implement threading? There's always a lot of implementation technique to be learned so you aren't releasing pre-alpha code so buggy it requires a reset every 15 minutes. – Fiasco Labs Dec 23 '11 at 3:33
This question was rightly closed, because it is yet another "Why is X the case?" question where in fact X is not the case. A question with a falsehood as its premise is not only a loaded question but a falsely loaded question. Both you and M. Fiasco Labs need to learn a lot more about the history of computing. – JdeBP Dec 23 '11 at 11:32
@Fiasco Labs, not always true: In terms of gaming, some games have been written for better specs than the current cards can handle at the time of their release. – MaQleod Oct 16 '12 at 23:45
