Yesterday I was installing some packages on a Debian Squeeze server we have for testing, the OS showed me a list of updates before I can download/install my new packages, and I agreed to update the selected packages.
After a while the screen went black, I couldn't get any response from the OS, I left it for a while, and after that I had to manually restart it.
When it started again it showed me no GUI to log in, just a black screen with the mouse pointer visible, I could access it from cli/ssh, after that I ran # apt-get update and #apt-get upgrade and I was told to run # apt-get -f install but I got the following errors:
dpkg: python-aptdaemon-gtk: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you requested:

Debian was upgraded to Wheezy/sid 2.6.32-5-amd64, and after I tried some methods I managed to get the screen to show something, it shows the date at the top of the screen, a button to shutdown/restart the server in the top right corner, and the name of the server in the middle of the screen with a paper shape with red X in it.
The server is working perfectly but without GUI.
Can anyone help me get the GUI back again?
