I am looking to build a machine, and this is not about what to get, it is about what to use as a host as I want to virtual the environments.

I will be doing DB development, some prototyping, some heavy app, and some not.

I was thinking of going with a linux host with 12 gig, 7i processor and also 1.5 gig (3 500 gig drives) raid 0 to help spread the disk io.

Do you think this type of setup would be good to dev on? The VM would be for C++, C#, Java, etc... I was also planning on giving each VM 2 processors as 4-6 gigs of ram.

Anyone done this? If so what is the performance like of the VM when developing on?

I am also thinking of using virtual box.
