I am using MS Word 2007 and I wish to do a bulleted list, but the program keeps changing the list to Heading 1 whereas I want it to be Normal.

I have tried to click on Normal style but it simply changes it back to Heading 1. Whatever I do I cannot change it to Normal style and I have tried everything I know over the last hour. :(

This wouldn't be a major problem except that when I do the table of contents it puts the whole list in there.

Can you include a small reproducer program that will show the problem succinctly? Something like 20 lines long... – sarnold Dec 31 '11 at 2:53
Sorry but can't do that; it's simply ten lines of writing in msword that the program changes into 'Heading 1' style when I want it to be 'Normal'. I have no idea how to re-produce it. – James Clifton Dec 31 '11 at 3:00
Ah, I understand now. This should probably be on Super User instead of Stack Overflow, since there's no programming involved. It's got three votes for migration as it is, it'll take another two votes -- or a moderator noticing it -- before the migration will happen. (Migrating is preferable to asking a second question on the other site, but it might take a little while.) – sarnold Dec 31 '11 at 3:08
Did you check in Options , in the bullet and numbering section for the "style" that is set for this bullet point or numbering action ? I dont have 2007, but I am seeing that this was at one time a settable parameter in the options , down deeper. – Psycogeek Dec 31 '11 at 11:09
