I routinely follow our venerable Jeff Atwood's advice for caliberation when I encounter a new monitor. I had to purchase a new monitor and chose the Dell ST2320L (LED TN sRGB). While doing the Windows 7 calibration I was able to set the brightness down to 0 (I left the contrast as-is) - the real strange part was that I also had to set the gamma right down to the minimum amount. This is in stark contrast to my (non-functioning) Samsung P2450 which was 20% brightness and about 40% on the Windows 7 gamma slider. Are my eyes tricking me - or does this have something to do with the sRGB sticker?
