I use Windows 7, Gmail, and Firefox. When I compose messages the cursor often jumps, sometimes backwards, occasionally forward. I have tried Gmail help and so far have not found the problem.

Are you using a laptop and accidentally touching the touchpad with your thumb or palm? – kobaltz Jan 2 at 17:41
