I have a strange and annoying problem on my computer running XP Media Center 2005 SP2, with Simple File Sharing option enabled.
I was trying to prevent accidental alteration of files located in my Shared Documents folder (Path: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents) from other computers on the local network. To do this, I right-clicked on the Shared Documents icon in My Computer, selected "Sharing and Security"; under the Sharing tab of the Shared Documents Properties window I unchecked "Allow other users to change my files" and clicked Ok.
I thought everything was correct but quickly discovered that any attempt to alter files in the Shared Documents folder or its subfolders from my own computer resulted in the usual "Access denied" message, even if I was logged in as an Administrator account. I went back to the Sharing tab, re-enabled the "Allow other users to change my files" option, and normal write-access was restored. I have not ploblem to access my files with this option enabled but the initial problem remains: my files are still not protected from other network users as I would like.
This behaviour seems obviously abnormal to me. Shouldn't this option forbid write-access to files only from the network, but not from my own machine ? (Tell me if I'm misinformed !) It looks like NTFS permissions are not correctly written on this computer and I'm asking for advice to correct this problem. Thank you.
