I read this article http://gigaom.com/2010/01/21/analyst-firm-thinks-arm-will-beat-intel-on-ultramobile-devices/ about the battle between Intel and ARM. They say that the x86 platform has became the standard for desktop, but now the new ARM is getting more market share because their CPUs are more battery efficient.

My question is if AMD is included in the x86 platform. There are a lot of AMD cpus out there, how about them?

x86 is just a name for an architecture. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86 — > The architecture has been implemented in processors from Intel, Cyrix, AMD, VIA, and many others. – slhck Jan 4 at 11:41

potentially arguementitive question. AMD doesn't make x86 systems anymore, they make AMD64 systems, and intel makes EMT64 based systems which are compatible with it ;). – Journeyman Geek Jan 4 at 12:06
