I've singled out several factors the problem:
- The 2 computers being remoted into that have problems have multiple monitors (4).
- The registry key *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Live Mesh\Remote Desktop\DisplayDevices* is created upon remoting in the first time. It has 4 keys below it: DEVICE0 - DEVICE3 that are indicative of the 4 monitors. If the DisplayDevices key is not deleted, you cannot remote into the machine again.
- My laptop with its 1 native monitor works fine. I can remote in to it over and over again. It has 2 keys created in its DisplayDevices key, DEVICE0 and DEVICE1. I'm not sure why it has more than 1 DEVICE key when it only has 1 monitor.
- I used to have a laptop with 2 monitors (1 native and 1 external) and I was able to remote into it fine, I never looked in the registry so I'm not sure what kind of keys it had created.
A similar issue in the Windows Live Help Forum with more information about the registry keys is listed here: http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?threadid=036a131a-124d-49b1-b9dd-286094ac4da5&page=1
Does anybody have any clues as to what the problem is? I can't seem to find anyone with the same issue, but I can recreate it on multiple machines.
