Using Debian 6.0.3, Gnome 2.30.2, and cannot force Iceweasel to be used as default browser. I set Iceweasel as default browser with:

  • default-alternatives --config gnome-www-browser and
  • default-alternatives --config x-www-browser.

Iceweasel can be launched normally; clicking on links in a web page opens them normally, also in Iceweasel.

But if I create a shortcut to a web page by dragging the content of Iceweasel location bar to the desktop, when double clicking on the shortcut the page opens in Epiphany. Also if I create a new empty file on the desktop with name ending in .html, this file will also open in Epiphany, never in Iceweasel.

Right clicking on the previous file and using 'open with', then selecting Iceweasel and checking 'remember this application' (I use a French version of Debian, the translation maybe not accurate) opens the file in Iceweaser once, but will not make next double click to launch Iceweasel. I'm disappointed...

Google shows this bug happened in past version of Debian, suggests it was corrected. Any idea to help finding the cause and/or the solution?

(newby to Linux -- also this is a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/q/8774130/774575, moved here as suggested)

The epiphany day is Jan 6th. Maybe the Debian team has a great sense of humour and wants us to use the only browser with same name that week :-)
