Are you logged in to an Active Directory domain or are you running Exchange and do you have Domain or Exchange Administrator access? – Moif Murphy Jan 9 at 15:32

@Moif Murphy Well, I'm on the company network. At first I thought it was a server setting, but apparently the other guys don't have to update their password ever, so it must be a local setting. I don't actually know what Active Directory is. I can harass the network admin to change it if I know what / where the setting is. – patrickinmpls Jan 9 at 15:39

I could be mistaken but your Outlook password policy might be enforced by the 'Default Domain Policy' which resides on the Domain Controller in your organisation. – Moif Murphy Jan 9 at 16:15
I'm with @MoifMurphy. Outlook should not be appearing to force you to change your password - Windows should. Now, if Outlook is having trouble keeping in synch with Windows' built-in authentication mechanisms, it might prompt you to enter the new pasword you already created. But, it should not be making you change your password through the application. – Iszi Rory or Isznti Jan 9 at 18:31
