I created a VHD backup image of my C partition some time ago. I copied this VHD file to my USB external hardrive.

I can successfully attach the VHD file on my USB HDD and explore its content.

Now, when I want to restore my C partition, I go to Control Panel > Recovery > Advanced Recovery Methods > Use a system image you created earlier. But Windows cant see my VHD file: "Windows could not find any file backups on this computer".

I also tried booting from the Windows 7 DVD. I go to Repair Windows > Restore backup image. Again it can't find my VHD file. So I go to Avanced > Install Driver (for installing the HDD driver) to browse the file system but then I clearly see my external hard drive and the VHD file directly inside of it!

What should I do for Windows to see that I have a VHD file on my external HDD?

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
